Mountain of Fire DVD-The Search For the True Mount Sinai
The exact location of Mount Sinai has eluded archaeologists and theologians for centuries. Tradition has placed this holy mountain squarely in the middle of the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula, but two unlikely teams of adventurers believe differently. This is their remarkable true story, a journey that leads them on a dangerous mission to the barren deserts of Saudi Arabia, and to a mysterious blackened peak, surrounded by high barbed-wire fences, patrolled by armed guards. Their startling evidence, smuggled out of Saudi Arabia at great risk, will shock the world and rewrite history. Excellent resource!

Read-Alouds:

The Lamb- Picture Book and Audio CD
John R. Cross
Excellent book! The deep and profound meaning of the Gospel is also simple enough that children can understand. With beautifully illustrated paintings and professionally narrated text, this picture book can engage children's attention, and at the same time communicate the spiritual truths to them. At the end of each chapter features a song that reminds them of the truths they just learned. The song builds upon itself and grow longer as the children gain more understanding of what they've learned. All ages.

The Priest: Aaron (Sons of Encouragement Series)

Francine Rivers
In The Priest you'll meet Moses' brother Aaron, the first high priest of Israel. How will Aaron support Moses while he struggles with being satisfied with God's plan for his own life? Be inspired by how this seemingly secondary character plays a key role in supporting his leader and impacting the faith for eternity. Ages 6 and up. My favourite account of the Exodus and wilderness wanderings by far!

The Cat of Bubastes
G.A. Henty
A young Egyptian accidentally kills a sacred cat and must flee from an angry mob. Set in 1250 B.C., the time of Moses, this thrilling adventure also features fascinating details about Egyptian religion and geography, the methods by which the Nile was used for irrigation, and how the Egyptians were prepared for burial. George Alfred Henty (1832-1902) was a prolific English novelist, special correspondent and Imperialist. He is best known for his historical adventure stories that were popular in the late 19th century. Ages 7 and up. Great read! Captivating.

Tirzah
Lucille Travis
Tirzah is a fictional young girl, an Israelite in Egyptian bondage. We follow her out of the hated Egypt, and see what the trek through the wilderness might have been to a young girl. She witnessed the plagues of Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea, feared during the creation and rebellion of the golden calf and the giving of the law, and wondered what would happen when there was nothing to drink. She gathered manna, worried over the sickness from the many quail, and speculated - like a typical teen - about who the matchmakers would think to put together. Tirzah's relations are involved in the common rebellions, and she hears their reasonings and justifications for their positions. The theme of racial prejudice is brought up concerning another young girl, an Egyptian maiden who turned to Yahweh and journeyed with the children of Israel. The final scenes of the book occur when the twelve spies have returned from Canaan. Because of the Israelites' unbelief in Yahweh, they are cursed to wander 40 years in the wilderness until those who did not believe were dead. Tirzah struggles with fear and rebellion throughout the book, but by the end she comes to understand a little of the ways of Yahweh, and learns to hope in Him. Ages 8 and up.

Moses in the Bulrushes
Warwick Hutton

The Pilgrimage of the Ben Beriah
Charlotte M. Younge
A well written novelization of the Exodus account as viewed through the lives of the Ben Beriah clan, descendants of Joseph and keepers of his bones. The only accurate fictionalized account I've read regarding the location of the Red Sea crossing, and a thought provoking parallel between characters who trust in the God of Israel and those who grumble against Him. Lacks character development. Slow moving. Lovely poems relating to the text begin each chapter. This long out of print book is worth a read if you can find a copy.

The Pillar of Fire
J.H. Ingraham
The story of Moses and the Israelite exodus from Egyptian bondage is told through a series of letters, written primarily by Sesostris, Prince of Tyre, to his mother, Queen Epiphia of Phoenicia, while visiting in Egypt, and then forty years later, by Remeses his son to Sesostris while he too is visiting in Egypt after his father has succeeded to the throne. Well written and true the Biblical account, this 1859 best seller was the third most popular book read in America the day after the Civil War. Long out of print and rare, The Pillar of Fire is now available through Lamplighter Publishing.
