Rulers

Rulers is a one year history course covering the time of Israel's prophets and kings, from about 1100BC to 600BC. This is perhaps the most exciting year of Biblical history, as the majority of Old Testament scripture was written over this era in Israel's ancient past.
These were the glory years, with King David's seed on the throne, Solomon's temple ranking as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, and Israel the leading nation among all others.

We will look into the lives of Saul, David, and Solomon, and their descendants who sat on the throne, until the period Babylonian exile with the last king, Zedekiah.

This was also the period of the prophets, with even large schools and towns dedicated to those who were called to be the messengers of the Lord. We will study Samuel, Isaiah, Amos, Nathan, Jonah, and the many other prophets who were the contemporaries of these kings.

We will read the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon... the ancient poetic writings of the kings and Levites. We will explore Solomon's temple, building a model in miniature. With cultural crafts, activities, and fictionalized history, we will delve into this fascinating time in Israel's history.

The nations of mighty Assyria, Philistia, Phoenicia, Syria, Edom, Moab, and Ammon, along with wealthy Egypt, will be included in our studies, as they were the neighbors, allies, or enemies of Israel during the monarchy years.
