Rulers Introduction

The heart of history is the relationship between God and mankind. Each year's studies takes us into a particular era in the history of the world, and with it is always found a lesson for us today. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 10 that the history recorded in scripture was preserved as examples to those of us who would follow, that we may learn from their experiences and hopefully gain wisdom for our own lives.

This years studies takes us into the era of the Kings and Prophets through historical narratives, prophetic books, and poetic literature.

The underlying theme found throughout these Biblical books is that of trust in God versus trust in man, money, or might. Israel fell into sin so many times by simply trusting in themselves or other nations to deliver them, but those who simply trusted in the LORD their God were always saved.

My prayer is that as we learn about these men and women who lived long ago, we will learn about ourselves, and our inclination to put our trust in things other than Jesus Christ. I pray that we would grow in our confidence in the LORD, as we read accounts of His past faithfulness to those who believed on Him, and allow Him to show Himself strong on our behalf as well.
